Local Outreach

We strive to connect our faith meaningfully, not only with our individual lives, but also to the life and needs of our  world. We do this by intentionally engaging in service to others within our local community. Come, join us as we serve one another in love.

Outreach - Mary Mission 1

Saturday Mornings at St. Mary's

Once a month we send a 10-12 person mission team to St. Mary's kitchen at 13th and Holmes in downtown Kansas City. The team helps set up, prepare, serve and clean up noon meals for the hungry. Can you push a broom, stir a pot, or offer a smile? You can make a big difference in others' lives!

Backsnack Ministry

Every Sunday after worship we pack 140 backpacks with nonperishable self-preparable food to give to children who might otherwise go hungry over the weekend. Each Friday afternoon we deliver and hand out these 140 backpacks to children who attend the Martin City elementary school. Can you stuff a sack? Lift a box? Offer a smile to a child? You can make a difference!

Community Garden

We tend a 40' x 40' garden that produces well over 500+ pounds of food each year that goes directly to the Kansas City Community Kitchen at Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Cathedral where they serve 500-600 hot lunches a day! It is simply amazing to see how much food can come out of one plot of land! Can you pick vegetables? Water a few plants? Drive a produce-loaded car downtown? You can help feed the hungry!

Food Pantry

Weekly we gather for and deliver food to St. Mary's food pantry to help feed the hungry of downtown Kansas City. It is not uncommon to see worshipers enter through our doors with their arms full of food. We bless a few truck loads a few times per year as large influxes of food come in for this awesome ministry. Do you have a few extra cans of food around? Could you pick up extra items at the store the next time you are out? Bring them to worship with you; yes, you can feed the hungry!

Adopt-a-Family

Each Christmas our children lead our community in adopting a family in need. We raise the funds, go to the store, buy the presents, wrap them and present them to the family. It is an amazing and wonderful way to yearly celebrate the birth of Jesus! You can feel the joy of the children and community as we gather for and give to others. Can you spare a few bucks during Christmas, go shopping, or wrap presents? You can brighten a local family's life during the holiday season!

Car Care Kits

Ever wonder what to do when you pull off the exit ramp and someone in need is asking for help? Our children raise the money for and prepare "car care kits" -- that include water, a snack bar, a map to local food pantries and bus fare to get there -- to hand out to those in need. Worshipers pick up their "car care kits" after worship each week, ready to show the love of God each time they pull off the highway. Can you roll down your window, hand out a bag and give a smile? You can make a difference!

The Giving Tree

Each year during Christmas we set up an empty Christmas tree in our narthex (foyer/entrance area). The goal? Fill it up with hats, gloves, scarves and coats. We've collected hundreds upon hundreds of items and delivered them to Union Mission and St. Mary's Downtown. It is a wonderful sight to see the tree fill up each year and to have it brought in during our Sunday morning worship to be blessed before we send them in love into Kansas City. Got an extra pair of gloves, scarf or coat? Bring it to worship with you; yes, you can help keep someone warm this winter!
