Why Our Name? Who Was St. Mary Magdalene?

    "I have seen the Lord!"

The Apostle to the Apostles

Our church is known by the name of St. Mary Magdalene. Why? Because she inspires and encourages us in our walk with God as fellow followers of Jesus. To help you see why we chose such a name, and follow in her foot steps as we follow Jesus, below you'll find some of her story.

 __________________________

Jesus radically and profoundly healed Mary Magdalene. Thereafter, she became one of his most devoted followers, supporting his ministry out of her own means and caring for him even when the other disciples fell away. Mary was one of the few faithful women with Jesus at his crucifixion and remained at his tomb in order to anoint his body. Therefore, she was the first to see Jesus' body missing.

Then, with a single word, her name, he revealed himself to her after his death. She was the first human to experience the presence of the Risen Lord. And she was the first to share the good news of Jesus' victory over death by going to the other disciples, the Apostles, to tell them "I have seen the Lord!" This is why she is known as "The Apostle to the Apostles."

From extreme pain to radical healing, from isolation to inclusion, from insignificance to honor as the first witness to the Resurrection, Mary Magdalene experienced the utter joy of Jesus' love, and announced the glorious message of his unending life.

We walk in her path. We follow the same Risen Lord. We hear him calling our name. We invite you to join us. Come and share with us the exciting and challenging journey of being his disciple, a student of his ways, in this world!

The same Lord who met Mary outside his empty tomb and changed her life with the simple utterance of her name is waiting to speak to you at St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church. We invite you to be a part of her legacy and join the most exciting adventure you will ever take.
